So, you know what they say: "You are what eat." So... are you?

Most of us know, logically, that we need to eat healthily. It's the right thing to do for our bodies. We know that. We know we need to keep our blood pumping, our lungs working, our cells doing their thing. Sometimes that's not enough to reconsider how we eat, though.

Eating a diet high in fats and sugars is not healthy. You can feel your body getting sluggish and slow and heavy. Not only does your body slow down, but your mind doesn't work as quickly or as efficiently. Have you noticed? If you reverse the trend, you will definitely notice!

Meanwhile, do you give any consideration to what you eat and how it impacts your soul? Your spirit?

If your body isn't working to its full potential, and your mind isn't working to its full potential, is it any wonder your spirit may be lagging? You may start to notice that that sugary drink cup is half empty; you're pessimistic, you're negative, you have trouble seeing the beauty and positive things around you. When you're fueling up on garbage, your meditation comes slowly - if at all - and your priorities get all skewed.

Some super easy steps can help you turn it all around: mind, body and soul. Here are some tips:
  • Remember those crunchy green things you may have seen in the produce section of the grocery store? Try a few of those. Then next week, try some more. If you haven't seen the produce section in awhile, it's in the grocery store not at your drive through. ;)
  • Shop the perimeter of the store.
Produce, dairy, fresh healthy lean meats and fish are on the outskirts of the market. Skip the processed stuff in the middle aisles. My rule of thumb is if it crinkles when you open it, it's probably the wrong choice.
  • Try new foods.
If you see produce you've never tried, pick one up and when you get home look online for ways to prepare it (here's a place to start). Some grocery stores even have recipe suggestions right in the produce area. What could be easier than that?
  • Go for colorful platefuls.
Red berries, yellow bell peppers, deep and rich green spinach, orange carrots.
  • Don't go "no fat". Try "smart fats"!
The fats in fish, nuts, dry beans (watch the salt in canned versions!), and skim milk are great. I love avocado in a zillion ways and they're a lovely way to get healthy fats - and they're fillng, too. (Not sure how to eat one? Drop me a comment and I'll give you some tips!)
  • Make it whole-grain.
No, not just "wheat" but whole-grain. As high a percentage of whole-grain as you can find (you'll have to break out the reading glasses and start checking labels. My kids have never had "white bread" and we switched to whole grain pasta and rice a few years ago and not a single person in the family noticed.
  • Switch to healthy oils.
Even McDonald's is doing it! Avoid palm oil, palm fruit oil, palm kernel oil, and coconut oil (and butter, fat, and lard!) while seeking out vegetable oils, "EVOO" (extra-virgin olive oil), and other polyunsaturated fats like sunflower oil.
  • Is your diet fishy?
Try to eat some salmon, herring or mackerel each week. They're brain-builders, and contain omega-3 fatty acids that can help lower your triglycerides.
  • Go for fresh!
Opt for fresh (and organic when possible) produce. Making this choice helps minimize your exposure to pesticides and other nasties used on non-organic farms. And fresh clearly lacks the salt and preservatives that may be found in canned goods and some frozen foods.
  • Live life like a locavore.
Select locally-grown, in-season foods and you'll support your body while supporting the local economy!
  • Train you tastebuds to love dark chocolate instead of unhealthy milk chocolate.
You'll limit some fat intake and increase some Good For You's like flavonoids, serotonin, and ingredients that increase endorphins. Is it any wonder why we grab chocolate when we need a boost?
  • Drink your water. Drink your water. Drink your water.
    Did I mention water?
  • Seasonings make the difference.
Herbs and other seasonings pack a delicious wallop over fresh and healthy foods- just don't make the mistake of pouring salt on top of everything!
  • Go slowly if you're not used to eating this way.
Chop up a pepper and toss it in your spaghetti sauce. Toss a salad to have next to your porkchop. Fresh berries are always delicious over cereal, yogurt, wafles. Switch from 2% to skim milk. Swap your soda for a flavored water or sweet drink like Crystal Lite if water isn't your thing. Skip the "fried" and eat your meat & potatoes (and other foods) another way; grilled, broiled, steamed - those don't have to be  bland! Ditch the yolks and you can still have a great omelet- I swear.

I'm like many of the people out there - I have eaten well and I have eaten... well, whatever I wanted to eat. I can tell you which one works better for me! Using the tips above, I find my physical and mental health to improve greatly. And without those, what spirit can you have?

A final note: I have flirted with eating a raw vegan diet, and find the results to be amazing. Yes, it's hard to maintain. There aren't a ton of raw vegan restaurants in middle America or wherever you may be. And it's such a different way of thinking about food that you'll find it a challenge, surely. But the energy you feel after adopting the raw diet is undeniable. There's no need at all to go 100% raw; simply try adding a raw salad or some raw veggies and fruit to your diet every day and let me know how you feel! Or, try a good old green smoothie... please believe me, it's not nearly as gross as you think. In fact, they are delicious! It's the best way to start a day: guaranteed.

Simple green smoothie recipe
Toss one banana, a handful of berries or other fruit, and a handful of spinach or some other greens into a blender. Add ice (if you like it slushie) or water.
I like bananas and strawberries (some frozen and some fresh) with a handful of spinach or kale.  Add a spoonful of ground flaxseeds and a shake of nutmeg. Voila! Delish.

*Note: I have found that adding lots of red fruits keeps the green smoothie from being so... green. And sweet fruit is a must to balance out the potentially bitter taste of whichever greens you choose. If you're thinking that green drinks are unappealing, you're not alone. Trust me: it's not nearly as bad as it looks. Once I got past that, I was able to use green melons, grapes and other fruits that even enhance the green appearance!

So tell me: do you eat for your spirit?

09 June, 2010

Hey all,

You have all probably heard of 2012, and the big changes it is supposed to bring to life on this planet.

It's not "Doomsday"
Many people think that in December 2012, the world is going to end. I can reassure you right now, this is not going to happen. There will not be flaming meteors crashing into the planet, there will not be a nuclear war, and there will not be massive destruction. There was a time when this was a very real option, but thanks to many intuitives around the world in the 1980s, that time is past. You do not have to be afraid. We're here to stay.

That does not mean nothing is going to happen, though.

The End of an Era
For a very long time now, the world has been a very dark place. Many are suffering every day while others don't care. Countries are fighting each other, kids grow up in abusive homes. Most of us are enslaved to either our subconscious issues or blindly follow the rules of society. People have very little awareness of the world around them, and barely any access to their natural intuitive gifts.

We are at the end of what Hindu mythology calls the Kali Yuga, the dark Iron Age. We are also at the end of the Mayan Calendar, which according to tradition has been running since the start of the universe. Terrance McKenna's time lines based on the Chinese I-Ching are sketching the same picture. And for the last twenty years at least, intuitives around the world have been talking about new energies coming into the planet. We call this "The Shift."

This means that much is going to change, not only in the world at large, but in everyone's personal life as well. Change needs to happen, if our world is going to move into this new age. If we celebrate this and intentionally change things, this will be easy. If we fight it, life will change things for us, and it will be difficult.

Most people these days think that this Shift is going to happen in December 2012. Others, experts in the ancient traditions such as Carl Calleman, Barbara Hand Clow, and the Mayan Elders themselves, think it will be earlier than that and suggest late 2011.

We're Starting Early
For a long time, the 2012 date has not felt right to many of us. It felt like a scare tactic. But when we looked at the 2011 date more closely, we found that wasn't correct, either. After intense and deep intuitive work by the famous empath and meta-intuitive senser Angel, checked by me and intuitively double-checked by many of our students, we are looking at a new date of the end of this Era. While it's tough to be 100% certain what will happen or when, we are confident enough to share what we've sensed.

The date we are looking at is October 8, 2010.

Yes, that soon.

Yes, that is in a few months already.

Attached you can find a chart based on the work of the brilliant Terence McKenna, that shows the amount of novelty or rigid order we can expect to see in the world in the next few years. Adapted by one of the most strongly gifted and extensively trained intuitives alive in the world at this moment, it combines logic with a deep meta-intuitive understanding to show us this picture: We do not have as long as we thought.

Converting these calculations to match the Mayan Calendar, we are just today, June 9th, ending the 4th Day of the last universal cycle. The following prediction emerges:
 June 11 - July 1: 4th Night
 July 1 - July 21: 5th Day
 July 21 - Aug 10: 5th Night
 Aug 10 - Aug 30: 6th Day
 Aug 30 - Sept 19: 6th Night
 Sept 19 - Oct 8: 7th Day
Then, time as we know it will end.

What You Can Do
Why does the date matter, you ask? It's happening soon, can't we just sit and wait and see what happens? No. The Shift is much like a child being born. While you are pregnant, you need to watch what you eat and drink, you need to learn about parenting, and you need to make your life ready for a little baby who will be dependent on you to grow up healthy and happy.

If we sit and wait, if we think that nothing is going to happen for at least another one or two years, we completely miss the important Shift. Time matters. Energies matter. For this baby, this new world of ours, to be born and flourish, we need as many people spirituall awake and aware as possible. We need people to start taking off the blindfold they've been wearing all their lives, to look around, find out who they are, why they came here, and what they want to do with their lives. Then, we need for those people to reach out and teach others to do the same.

And we need for all the awake people to hold the energies that we want to see represented in this new Era. You can start this today.

What Will Happen?
We do not know. It has not been decided yet. As any parent knows, you cannot predict what a child is going to be like when it grows up. You may be able to tell if it is a girl or a boy, but will it be smart, athletic, popular, gifted, all of the above? Will it like rock music, or horses? Will it want to be a doctor, an astronaut, a teacher, president?

A lot of this is shaped by the child's parents, in the very first years of its life. If you give your child love, if you nurture it, give it some rules and a lot of freedom and understanding, it will grow up to be an amazing adult that you can be proud of. The same goes for our world. We are now very close to an unprecedented moment in our history, the start of a new world the likes of which no human has ever seen before. And we are its parents, you and I.

Shape your Vision
Everything we do shapes the world around us. Every action we take, every thought we have, influences our own energy and that of anyone around us. The mystic Richard Bach said:

No matter how qualified or deserving you are,
you will never reach a better life
until you can imagine it for yourself,
and allow yourself to have it.

The same is true for our world. No matter how much we want it, if we can not imagine a better world and allow ourselves to believe in it, we will never reach it.

I encourage each and every one of you who reads this to -- every night, before you to go bed -- spend some time truly imagining the world as you would like to see it. Imagine wildly. If you would like to be able to fly, imagine it. Imagine that everyone on this planet lives in safety, with enough food, with happiness and family who loves them. Imagine a world that is in harmony. Imagine people treating each other with honour, with love, with understanding and a desire to reach out and help.

If you spend a little time every night imagining the best world you can come up with, we will have a much better chance of making that world happen. And yes, of course we could be wrong. But with all my intuitive gifts, I say that we are not. Considering how close we are to the end of the world as we know it, how amazing the upcoming years can be, and how little effort it would take to make it so, I ask you to help us - and yourself - to make this happen.

In closing, I would like to re-iterate the words of the Mayan elder. Don't worry. It'll be ok. We are heading into a new Era, one that has the potential to be more wonderful than anything you've ever seen.

I will meet you there.

Love,

Here's a cool topic! The article linked here summarizes some studies mentioned in a book called Self-Insight: Roadblocks and Detours on the Path to Knowing Thyself (Essays in Social Psychology), by David Dunning. (Yeah, that's a little he-said-she-said, but hey, I've gotta give credit where it's due!)

At any rate, in his book, Dunning told of studies that show that sending a positive reflection of self to people is the most effective way to promote "right" action.

Let me give you an example from The Happiness Project's article (since I don't have the book), to make this theory clear:

The study "compared two classrooms of fifth graders. One class received several messages about the importance of not littering. The other class was told that it was a very neat and tidy class – the janitor told the class they were neatest class in the school, the teacher remarked on it, etc. It turns out that the second approach was much more effective in prompting the children not to litter."

This was the passage that got me to thinking: "When we're reminded of what we're doing right, and when we realize that right action is noticed and appreciated...we're encouraged to keep it up."

I personally have been utilizing this technique with my family for years, though of course not 100% of the time. Let me tell you, things go a lot more smoothly when you focus on how helpful your kids are being rather than on how slow they're moving!

I wanted to open this to you, though. Is this manipulation? Is this forcing something on people - a belief you hold that you want to push on them? Or is it simply framing someone's best qualities (or their potential) and presenting it to them as an option?

What are your thoughts?

And here's another idea. If you were to practice this habit with yourself, what would you say to YOU?

How's your intuition? What?! You think you don't have intuition? Ah, tsk tsk, my friend. We all have intuition... you just might not be listening.

Call it intuition, instinct, insight, a hunch, a sixth sense, or simply listening to your gut.  Hell, call it "spidey sense" if you want. It's not just the realm of psychics or women (ah, the infamous "women's intuition"). There's no need for a turban and crystal ball. We all get those Feelings, a sudden knowing without knowing how. It's a matter of realizing it.

Intuition is defined as knowing or sensing something without having a rational basis for that knowledge and without effort. Sometimes explained as "supernatural", intuition actually has been studied numerous times by scientists and psychologists. In fact, many people attribute scientific innovation to intuition; in other

This blog won't always be Elfpath-centric in that "sign-up, join us!" kind of way. It's just not that kind of blog. But from time to time, I'll share some insight from my journey, or other Elfpath members may come and talk about things that have impacted them in a way they want to share.

I thought I'd tell you a bit about what I learned in the first month of Elfpath studies and why I think Elfpath can be of universal benefit.

First, let me tell you a bit about me. I was raised with an organized religion, Catholicism, and even attended parochial school from first grade through high school. Talk about indoctrination! That was never a good fit. Some of it I took with me, but much was left behind. Ditto my experiences with philosophy, "self-help" books, Wicca, the Celts. I liked a little from everything, but all of nothing, and adapted the things that fit into my personal spirituality. Native American religions and philosophies intrigued me, but then again so did Hinduism, Buddhism, and the beliefs of the ancient Greeks. I also dabbled in "New Age" topics, though will never be a fan of New Age music, nor will I ever fully dive into the culture surrounding so many things deemed "New Age". Yoga gained popularity, and I tried it. I liked it! I attempted meditation, but could never focus enough to consider myself One Who Meditates.

I read The Secret and tried to put it to work (some good results, some non-results).  I believe in a life after this one, but I also believe I have lived before and will live again. There are ghosts here on earth, who haven't moved on - I know this because I have seen them. I feel the energy in the earth when I lie on the grass and watch the clouds move. I feel a bond with the other people I meet, even the ones I am not certain I like too much. Animals are special to me, and I think they have souls or spirits or... something.

Basically, I am someone who is always searching and growing, and I like it that way! I believe, most of all, in being true to myself and acting accordingly.

When I was introduced to Elfpath I read what they were teaching and thought, "what do I have to lose?" Indeed. What is there to lose? But after just a month, so much had been gained!

16 May, 2010

Welcome! Grab a cup of tea and pull up a chair. Make yourself comfortable! We are glad to have you here with us on Elfpath's official blog.

You may be here because you're already a part of the Elfpath community, or you may be stopping by because someone directed you to us. In either of those cases, you are probably familiar with the Elfpath concept. But others of you may have just stumbled upon us while surfing the web - and if that's the case, we want to point out that there are no coincidences. You're here because we have things to share with you... and you have things to share with us!

You may be asking yourself...

First and foremost, Elfpath is a school, a place where we teach you a process to open up your own intuition and deal with problems in your life. We offer you a chance to develop your meta-intuitive skills (yes, you have them too, and you can learn to use them effectively), access to a lot of teachers and fellow students to help you as you go along, as well as learning materials and classmates to have fun with.

Our vision is to create a worldwide intuitive organization that works together in waking people up. We want to offer everyone in this world a clear process to heal themselves and the people around them, to truly be who they came here to be, and to be more successful on their personal as well as career paths. It is our belief that if enough people around the world can learn to use their intuition again, can sense and shape energy and live their lives in harmony with who they really are, the world itself will have to change. We want that change. Soon.

You can learn a lot more about Elfpath by clicking on the tabs at the top of the screen or by visiting us directly at Elfpath.com.

Welcome to the Elfpath community. This is our blog. But more importantly, this is your blog. We look forward to getting to know you!
